Treatments for Neck Pain - Chiropractic Adjustments

by Dr. Steve Schram

Neck pain is an all too common experience for numerous people, particularly females. Depending upon its cause and severity, the pain experienced can range from mild to intense and burning, requiring immediate relief. There are several potential causes from neck pain, ranging from diseases and infections to physical injury.

Diseases and disorders of the neck tissue that can lead to neck pain include conditions such as neck strain, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, polymyalgia rheumatica, and fibromyalgia. Along with these conditions, tuberculosis, meningitis, and other infections have also been implicated in causing severe neck pain. Other risk factors that can affect the occurrence of neck pain include injuries such as those that would occur due to contact sports, accidents involving motor vehicles, etc.

Evidence has also shown that stress can both cause as well as increase one's level of pain. Despite continuous study, little is known about many of the causes of neck pain. Unfortunately, many studies attempting to pinpoint the causes of neck pain have been inconclusive.

Neck adjustment, as a means of neck pain relief, has been shown to be highly beneficial when performed by a neck pain chiropractor. More and more patients are discovering the benefits of chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic treatment, according to research and practice, has been shown to be effective for many individuals suffering from neck pain.

Neck pain treatment in the form of chiropractic care, along with not being invasive, requires no medications are significantly less expensive than other forms of pain management. For most, neck pain adjustment in used in combination with other treatments to control neck pain. Combining more conservative forms of treatment with neck adjustments can often reduce the required amounts of medications and can eliminate a large amount of the patient's dependence on analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Neck pain caused by injuries can often lead to a shifting and subsequent misalignment of the spine, a condition that can often be remedied by a qualified chiropractor through the use of adjustments. In cases such as these, the chiropractor can perform a chiropractic adjustment that can take the form of various musculoskeletal and spinal manipulation techniques. These adjustments work by improving the patient's posture and correctly realigning the spine and neck so that the individual can move and function normally.
