Whenever you go for workout sessions, you may probably want to stay at your best so that you may loose some calories and keep fit. Therefore, it is important that you watch what you consume so that you can sustain yourself. Below, are tips to guide you through what to eat before a workout
It is good to bear in mind that the energy that the body uses during such sessions is not generated from food that you eat from meals that you take immediately. The energy comes from fats stored in the liver, muscles, fat cells and some of the carbohydrates that you eat. These two are essential in helping an individual during long sessions which can last for 3-4 hours.
This simply implies that the overall diet you take should be enough to sustain you throughout the whole exercise hence, you do not have to take anything before your workout. In addition, if eating just before the session gives you some stomach upsets, or rather you do some exercises early in the morning, you do not have to eat first.
You should be in a position to tell if you need to eat prior to exercises or not especially for those individuals who have a balanced diet and also take the right amount of calories. This is due to the fact that your energy level and experience should dictate whether you should eat or not. The trick is knowing what will work well for you and at the same time give you the best results.
You can also take some fluids specifically one to two hours ahead of the exercise session since it is fine for the body. Hydration usually allows one to exercise easily and effectively. Taking 16-20 ounces one to two hours earlier will help you to exercise properly hence you will be able to attain your goals quickly. It is also significant since it reduces headaches that you would have experienced after exercising.
If you have stayed long without taking a meal or you normally have hard time working out before eating, it means you are sensitive to changes in your blood sugar levels that fall in the early stages of exercise. Such drops in sugar levels can cause mild dizziness, or faintness or even tiredness. There are other health related illnesses that might prompt you to eat before you exercise because if you do not, your blood sugar levels will drop. These health conditions include diabetes or hypoglycemia.
Some people also do very good with a pre-snack or meal before the session. This can be done in two ways. One is by taking a small snack of about 100-200 calories every 30 minutes before the exercise sessions. It should contain carbohydrates that are easy to digest and some fats that digest slowly. Sports drinks, fruit, energy bars, drinks and fruits that contain a lot of glycemic like watermelons and pineapples are perfect.
Lastly, what to eat before a workout will rely on many factors. On the other hand, the meal should be well nutritionally balanced. Also, if your meal has a lot of fats and proteins, you will stay for some time before you can exercise. For this reason, you have to make a good combination. You can go for fruits, cottage cheese, milk and cereals, oatmeal's, nuts and some yogurt.
